For forty years the whaling industry developed and flourished along the shores. Whalers were befriended by the Maoris who built houses and grew food for them. Maoris also worked at whaling and cutting in and boiling down the blubber. Many whalers married Maori women, swore loyalty to their wives' people – were honest and hard working. / These shore-whalers never left New Zealand and their descendants are still found today among the Maori people, proudly bearing the memory and sometimes the name of their English, Irish, American or Spanish forefathers.」と記載。
